Join the Bushwackers for their Big Birthday Bash. There’ll be dancing and stories and all the great songs that have kept this legendary band performing for the last 43 years.

The Bushwackers are celebrating their 43rd year of performing and the anniversary of the Eureka Stockade with a Big Birthday Bash at the Thornbury Theatre on Friday December 6th.  The Bushwackers have always had a special connection with the spirit of Eureka. Their iconic anthem, ‘Beneath the Southern Cross’ speaks to their many fans who also feel that connection. This celebratory night is an opportunity to remember the events of Eureka, especially those diggers who stood up to the heavily armed troopers on the goldfields of Ballarat in 1854 – a defiant stance that helped forge our Australian spirit.

The Bushwackers are still going strong after 43 years.  Gone are the beards and long hair of this group who formed at Melbourne’s La Trobe University in 1971 but the ideals, energy and determination have remained strong to this day.  The band are led by Dobe Newton and Roger Corbett who together have seen the Bushwackers through some tough days and glorious nights of great Australian music.

Proud winners of three Golden Guitar awards, The Bushwackers are best known throughout Australia for their energetic shows that have entertained Australian audiences leaving thousands of fans singing and dancing in the aisles. Legendary performances at the Tamworth Country Music Festival, Woodford Folk Festival, The Gympie Music Muster, The Port Fairy Folk Festival and many others have cemented their place in Australia’s music history.

The Bushwackers’ Birthday Bash brings together The Bushwackers’ much-loved repertoire of working songs such as; The Ryebuck Shearer, The Limejuice Tub and Flash Jack From Gundagai along with classic contemporary songs recorded by The Bushwackers, I Am Australian and The Band Played Waltzing Matilda, Henry’s Men and Beneath the Southern Cross.

“The best compliment I’ve ever had”, says singer Roger Corbett, “is when someone said to me at a show, ‘thank-you for showing me how to ‘feel’ Australian”.   You’ll feel it too when you come along to The Bushwackers Big Birthday Bash on December 6th at the Thornbury Theatre.

Bring your friends and family along for our big birthday celebration – a great night for Aussies of all ages. TICKETS at Oztix and at the door on the night!
