The Bushwackers Release New Single:
“I Am Australian” Youth Collaboration

The Bushwackers have unveiled their latest single, a new rendition of the iconic song
“I Am Australian.” This version features a collaboration with three teenage
Australian vocalists Lucy Beveridge, Rory Phillips, and Kyla-Belle Roberts.

Originally co-written by Dobe Newton and ex-Seeker Bruce Woodley,
“I Am Australian” is cherished as an alternative national anthem by many. This new
rendition begins with Newton himself, bringing a fresh perspective to the timeless
track.

“Roger (Corbett) and I performed ‘I Am Australian’ on The Voice, Australia TV last year, and the
response was overwhelming,” says Newton. “We decided to include it on our latest
album, ‘The Great Australian Lap.’ Roger suggested involving young voices in the
project, as they represent the future of Australia.” Lucy Beveridge, Rory Phillips, and
Kyla-Belle Roberts each take on verses, with Kyla-Belle singing the last verse in
Gomeroi language, adding a poignant touch.

Corbett reflects on their live performances: “Every time we perform ‘I Am Australian’,
the audience sings, stands, cheers, and shows solidarity. It’s a wonderful
outpouring from the crowds.” Newton adds, “Over its 37-year history, there have
been over a hundred versions of this song recorded in different languages,
showcasing its inclusive nature.”

This rendition by The Bushwackers Youth Collaboration highlights the diversity of
voices in the Australian community, spanning from the seasoned tones of Newton
and Corbett to the youthful voices of Lucy, Kyla, and Rory.
